Dear Bret Harte Community,
A letter was supposed to go home with students yesterday regarding a momentous change at Bret Harte. Please check backpacks.
Mrs. Williams will be leaving Bret Harte next year, and we need to select a committee to interview new candidates for principal.
There will be a community meeting next Tuesday, May 31, from 5:30 to 6:30 in room 100. Please come. The PTA will provide dinner so that will make it easier for more parents, guardians, and community members to attend.
This is an important process that can set the tone for the future of our school. Unfortunately, the meeting is very short, and we need to make good use of our time. Please use this weekend to think about the most important qualities you would like to see in Bret Harte's next leader, and bring your thoughts and highest visions for the school to the meeting.
Please share this with your Bret Harte friends who might not be on this list.
Thank you,
------------

Fwd: From the Harte - MAY 2011

A little late... but better than never! Here is a copy of the newsletter "jam" that went home with report cards last week.
The main focus is EXPO - please plan on coming to Bret Harte this Saturday, 9-1, whether you are a parent, an alum, a neighbor, or a friend. This year we are hosting the mayor's Town Hall meeting in conjunction with our open classrooms -- it should be a very exciting day!
At the event the PTA - which will be the PTSA next yeaer - will be asking for donations towards keeping our Safe School Ambassadors program healthy for the next few years. Although the school's skeleton staff has been stretched, the school has been calmer this year, with student leaders more aware of their own biases and the experiences of others.
This week, teachers at Bret Harte are highlighting the "State of Emergency" that faces our school system.
If parents would like to speak out, this number will directly and automatically connect you to your legislators: 888-268-4334. In addition to extending tax cuts, there are three bills currently on the floor that can help with school funding in Oakland and CA: AB609 (Swanson), AB 1130, and AB 153 (Skinner). Find out more at http://castateofemergency.com - or at https://sites.google.com/a/oaklandea.org/oea/oea-events/ctastateofemergencymay9-may13#TOC-Tax-Fairness-Legislation-for-Califo .
Hope to see you at EXPO!
